We want to inform you of important changes to the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) that will take effect on February 1, 2025. The Government of Alberta has made adjustments to coverage guidelines, which means certain eye care services that were previously covered may no longer be included under the plan. As a result, some visits may require patient payment and certain services that were fully covered may now require a copay.
We understand that these changes may be both unexpected and concerning for you. Please know that our practice remains committed to providing high-quality care and support to all our patients. We recognize this decision by the government may place an additional burden on some individuals, and we share your disappointment over any inconvenience it may cause.
Our goal is to keep you informed and help minimize any potential impact on your healthcare. If you have questions about whether a specific service may incur a fee, or if you would like more information about your options, our administrative team is here to assist you. We will do our best to provide clear explanations and transparent fee structures.
Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to place your trust in our practice. We appreciate your patience during this transition and remain dedicated to offering the best eyecare and support possible. We’ve also included official details from the Alberta Association of Optometrist along with FAQs.
Sincerely,
Dr. Julie Dien-Fong
